Join the Lab
Train in causal inference and genetically-informed design
The lab is a collaborative, mentored environment where members learn to separate cause from confound using twin and longitudinal data — methods that are scarce and portable. We welcome inquiries at every level.
Doctoral students
Dr. Schaefer reviews applications through Vanderbilt’s Clinical Science PhD program each fall and may be accepting a new student for the next entering class. In prospective students he looks primarily for research productivity and strong research fit with the lab’s work on the environmental determinants of mental health; demonstrated experience using AI tools responsibly is a plus. Interested applicants are encouraged to email a CV and a short note about their research interests before applying.
Postdoctoral researchers
Inquiries are welcome. If your interests align with the lab’s work in causal inference, twin and longitudinal designs, and environmental exposures, email Dr. Schaefer a CV and a brief statement of interest and he will follow up about current or upcoming opportunities.
Vanderbilt undergraduates
Undergraduates join the lab as research assistants and work alongside graduate students on data collection and analysis — several have gone on to write honors theses with the lab. To be considered, email copies of your résumé to Dr. Schaefer and lab manager Haley Komorowski.
